Igloolik  May 18 - 22, 2011  

The Paraski Club of Igloolik will be the host of the 2011 Arctic Wind Riders Championship
Yes, this year the first Nunavut community to be trained in Paraski will host the 4th annual championship.  Riders from all participating clubs across Nunavut and Nunavik are invited to participate. Triangle races, speed runs and long distance are at the program again this year, as well as a 175 KM ride to Hall Beach and back. Igloolik 2010 Initiation Camp Video

A great experience in Igloolik with very enthusiasts students and teachers. Quite an organization Maren, the local recreation coordinator, has put up on the bay. All the gears were available right on the ice behind the giant skating area.

Congratulation to all participants.

On days when there was no wind, the students got their first trial into downhill skiing. Check it out.

Igloolik 2010 Initiation Camp

Four years after the invitation of QIA the Arctic Wind Riders are back this time with a whole equipment kit for the community to really start a club.

Eepa Qappik from Pangnirtung and Caleb Little from Igaluit are the two instructors in training that will work with me during this one week initiation camp .

Based on Kuujjuaq successful Club equipment storage, Maren applied the Sea-Can receipe(1) and ended-up with one of the best club set up we have seen yet in the North

I remembered Igloolik being dynamic having trained some 70 residents back in 2006, and this enthusiasm still remain very alive 4 your later. After a quick movie presentation at the school gym, the students were cranked up to try Parasking as quick as possible.

Global 101 team in Igloolik

 
Concerned by global warming, Celestino as been following the Global 101 team which arrived in town in mid April. Sir Richard Branson, Cheryl Tieg, singer Jewel and a the whole bunch of participants came by dog team. They started in Iqaluit went through Pungnirtung, Qikitarjuaq and Clyde River before heading to Igloolik and they did that for couple of month says Celestno who sent us pictures of him with Jewel and record company fellow, and his wife Leslie with Sir Richard Branson and with Cheryl Tieg.

The Arctic Wind Riders Team were invited to Iglolik during the Baffin Region Youth Comitee (BRYC) annual general meeting thanks to QIA 
Many meeting's delegates, as well as the tlocal youth - who turned out to be on school break - got their chance to try and feel this adrenaline activity.
