Kangirsuk Initiaion Camp

Kangirsuk a Paraski heaven
Alex Kudluc, Minnie Annahatak and William Nungak are Nunavik's first paraskiing instructors. Following an eight-day Kunoki training camp, the three residents of Kangirsuk have graduated from beginner to full-fledged instructors and are now in a position to pass on their knowledge and enthusiasm to other interested individuals in their community or abroad.

The course covered numerous topics such as wind navigation, sail handling, skiing techniques, security measures, gear maintenance and repair, as well as teaching methodology. "We feel privileged to have had such dynamic people for our first instructor's camp", explains Kunoki instigator Guy Laflamme.

From this stepping stone, the pionnering Nunavik community has set up a club structure - again a first - with the help of the Kunoki people. Right on the village's waterfront, the Kangirsuk Kunoki Club allows quick and easy access to the free rental equipment, to be used by residents on a sign & go basis, along with a repair shop service for the sails and ski gear. From there, paraskiers can then whisk by on their skis toward the Payne river, go accross the river and up to the powdery mountains or choose to redirect their sail toward Post lake.
